1. Information We Collect
Account information: When you register we collect your username, email address, and password (stored as a bcrypt hash). You may optionally provide a profile photo, bio, location, and social handles.
Usage data: We log standard server data including IP addresses, browser type, pages visited, and timestamps. This is standard for all web servers and used for security and analytics.
Cookies: We use session cookies to keep you logged in, and optional "remember me" tokens stored in your browser. We also use localStorage for UI preferences (e.g. dismissed banners). We use Statcounter for anonymous visitor analytics.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use your information to: (a) operate and improve the platform; (b) display your public profile to other users; (c) process ratings and submissions; (d) send important account notifications (we do not send marketing email without your consent); (e) detect and prevent fraud or abuse; (f) comply with legal obligations.
3. What Is Public
Your username, profile photo, bio, location, scores, ratings, and verdicts are public and visible to all visitors of the Site by default. Your email address is never publicly displayed. You can contact us to request removal of your profile.
4. Cookies & Tracking
We use the following cookies:
rp_session — PHP session cookie, required for login. Expires when you close your browser.
rp_token — Remember-me token, set only if you tick "Remember me" at login. Expires after 30 days.
rp_ref — Referral tracking cookie, set when you arrive via a referral link. Expires after 30 days.
We also use Statcounter, a third-party analytics service. Statcounter may set its own cookies. You can opt out at statcounter.com/about/legal/opt-out.
5. Data Sharing
We do not sell your personal data. We do not share your personal data with third parties except: (a) service providers who help us operate the Site (hosting, analytics) under confidentiality obligations; (b) where required by law or legal process; (c) to protect the rights, property, or safety of RatePigs.com or others.
6. Data Retention
We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. If you request deletion of your account, we will delete or anonymise your personal data within 30 days, except where we are required to retain it for legal purposes.
7. Your Rights
Depending on your jurisdiction you may have the right to: access the personal data we hold about you; correct inaccurate data; request deletion of your data; object to or restrict certain processing; and data portability. To exercise any of these rights, email us at privacy@ratepigs.com.
8. Security
We implement industry-standard security measures including password hashing (bcrypt), HTTPS encryption, prepared SQL statements to prevent injection, and session token rotation. No method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
9. Children
RatePigs.com is strictly for adults aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has registered an account, contact us immediately at legal@ratepigs.com and we will remove the account promptly.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the revised policy on this page with an updated date. Continued use of the Site after any changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
